This is a hybrid positionworking from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday for a total of 37.5 hours per week. The pay rate for this position is $34.00 per hour.
Epidemiologist 1 Job Overview:
This position is located in the Office of Informatics & Analytics (OIA) at the Tennessee Department of Health (TDH) in Nashville, TN and is funded by the Bureau of Justice Assistance's (BJA's) Harold Rogers Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) Grant. The Epidemiologist 1will play a key role in advancing overdose surveillance and strengthening the statewide multidisciplinary overdose working group. This includes the development of new surveillance tools and analytic briefs to assist partners in making data-driven decisions for overdose prevention and response. The position will also facilitate the working group meetings by coordinating monthly continued learning opportunities to internal and external stakeholders.
Epidemiologist 1 Key Responsibilities will include:
Facilitate the Overdose Working Group:
Organizing and leading monthly meetings
Structuring meetings to include data trends, expert presentations, and partner updates
Coordinating subject matter expert presentations on overdose-related research and evidence-based interventions
Develop and Implement New Surveillance Tools to Support Overdose Response Efforts:
Creating monthly analytic briefs highlighting linked data, emerging substances, and trends among marginalized communities
Designing interactive dashboards and visualizations to enhance accessibility and interpretation of overdose data
Expand the Working Group's Reach and Engagement:
Increasing participation from regional epidemiologists and local health partners
Work with OIA's Data Governance (DG) team to determine how internal data trends can be aggregated and shared publicly
Support the Planning and Execution of an Annual In-Person Working Group Meeting:
Partner updates, success stories, and program spotlights
Evaluation of the working group's impact and overdose data utility
Coordinating travel for Hal Rogers working group participants
Provide Timely Data Analysis and Visualization Support to TDH Leadership, Program Staff, and External Partners
Document Processes and Methodologies to Ensure Reproducibility and Transparency
Epidemiologist 1 Education, Experience and Qualification Requirements:
The preferred candidate with have an MPH or PhD with significant experience in Public Health, Overdose Surveillance, or Health Data Analysis. The ideal candidate should also demonstrate:
Proficiency in R or SAS (SQL experience preferred)
2+ years of experience with an intermediate/expert understanding in data visualization software, such as Tableau or R, is required.
Experience working with large datasets and developing analytic briefs
Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights
Experience facilitating meetings, coordinating stakeholders, and engaging multidisciplinary partners
Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects in a dynamic environment
