GENERAL DESCRIPTION: 


The Epidemiologist will conduct surveillance on infectious diseases, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. The Epidemiologist will assist with epidemiologic investigations, outbreak investigations, and interventions using sound epidemiologic methods.  The role involves surveillance, data analysis, education, and collaboration with healthcare staff, local and state agencies, and the general public to reduce the burden of infectious diseases.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.

 
Performs duties of an  Epidemiologist including, but not limited to:
  • Collects data that can be used in the identification of public health problems and surveillance. This may involve conducting patient interviews as well as monitoring progress; 
  • Facilitates collaboration/cooperation and acts as a liaison between the Wyoming Department of Health and section programs as well as public and private healthcare and the general public;
  • Participates in public health surveillance by identifying potential data sources and helping create mechanisms for data transfer;
  • Collaborates with other health entities, state and federal, in the identification of public health problems by identifying relevant data;
  • Participates in 24/7 on-call rotation.

Qualifications



PREFERENCES: 


Preference will be given to candidates with a Master’s degree.


KNOWLEDGE: 


  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Microbiology, Epidemiology, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience: Experience with outbreak investigation, disease surveillance, and data analysis is desirable.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of epidemiology methods, regulations, and guidelines, including those from the CDC. 
  • Skills: Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to summarize and present data.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and effectively communicate with healthcare professionals and the general public at all levels.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in using infection surveillance software, data visualization software (i.e. Tableau), and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Work Environment: This position will work remotely.

  • The employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying light items, driving an automobile, etc.
