Job Description:

The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services is seeking a passionate and dynamic Public Health Administrator to develop and lead our Maternal and Child Health (MCH) surveillance teams!

In this pivotal supervisory role, you will guide a team of seven as they conduct the Child and Maternal Death Review, the Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System (PRAMS), and the Home Visiting Performance Management System (N-MIECHV) Teams.

In addition, you will provide leadership to the MCH programs and serve as a core member of the Maternal and Child Health Block Grant, as they seek to make data informed decisions.


 

You will play a crucial part in ensuring robust MCH epidemiological functions by managing data systems, conducting insightful analyses, and vital reporting, all while fostering workforce development.

As a collaborative leader, you will identify capacity gaps, strategize budgets, and coordinate resources to meet the evolving data needs of our MCH initiatives and work to develop and support a team of public health professionals.

Minimum Hourly Rate: $32.067 Minimum Permanent Rate after successful completion of original probation: $33.671

Requirements/Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in public administration, social work, human development, public health, behavioral science, law, finance, human resources or other program-related field AND two years of experience in a field related to the assigned program area including supervisory experience; OR a Master’s degree in any of the above-mentioned fields. Experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Supervisory experience a must – 2 years preferred.
  • Master’s degree in public health, biostatistics, or related area, and/or a minimum of 5 years work experience in public health, particularly in the area of maternal and child health.
  • Training and/or experience in using statistical software, such as SAS or STATA is helpful.  

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to coach and develop teams of highly trained professionals.
  • Successful candidates will demonstrate knowledge and skills in public health and epidemiology.
  • Knowledge of grants, budgets, and supervision are required.
