JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Research Design and Preparation - Makes sound decisions concerning designs and analyses of short and long term complex projects, without supervision. Works collaboratively and directly with investigators to identify research needs and requirements. Advises investigators on optimizing study designs to effectively answer research hypotheses. Writes sample size requirements and statistical analysis sections for grants, e.g., can describe appropriate analyses for each specific aim of the grant. Provides input on the time and resources required to complete analyses, for grant development or project management purposes.

  • Data Files - Prepares complex datasets for analysis, including integrating data from multiple study sites, performing complex linkages among datasets, such as one-to-many merges or designing intricate record selection criteria. Programs complex coding of, for example, lagged or cumulative variables. Designs the process for flow of data from multi-clinical sites, as well as quality control procedures for the databases. Expert advisor on data flow, responsibilities of the statisticians, database structure, analyses, and interpretation for complex studies.

  • Analysis - Recognizes complex designs used in epidemiologic, clinical or basic science research and recommends appropriate analyses, such as longitudinal data analysis, e.g., has the knowledge to know how to decide appropriate analyses for each specific aim of a grant or project. Performs complex statistical analyses, e.g., can analyze longitudinal data to determine whether or not a characteristic of a subject maintains a relative position within a distribution. Can interpret the data and recognize when additional analyses are warranted. Works on complex problems, for example, in which analysis of data requires an evaluation of intangible variables or constructs.

  • Training & Development - Acts as a mentor to level I and level II Biostatistician/Quantitative Epidemiologists in their professional development. Contributes to the professional growth of other members of the research team. Coordinates the work of other members of the research team. Provides leadership in improving the operations of the bio statistical and epidemiology groups, through recommending new statistical software and new statistical practices. Actively seeks new research and continuing educational opportunities.

  • Consulting - Serves as a consultant to internal and external clients, regarding complex bio statistical issues. Actively participates in drafting and editing manuscripts and abstracts for submission or formal presentations of analyses or data.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in related field. May require clinical license, certification or training

  • 5+ years of work experience in a related job discipline

  • OR equivalent combination of education and experience
