The Cedars-Sinai Hospital Epidemiology Department is committed to promoting the safe delivery of healthcare and becoming a recognized leader in Infection Prevention and Control. We strive to achieve this by instilling best practices in infection prevention and fostering a culture of expertise to safeguard both patients and staff and to minimize or eliminate Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAIs). Our goal is to reduce HAIs through proactive measures and evidence-based practices.
The Infection Preventionist II demonstrates knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) through certification and applies knowledge and experience to guide practice while learning advanced concepts. The IP II is responsible for leading the identification, investigation, monitoring, evaluating and reporting healthcare-associated infections. Additionally, they lead efforts in collaborating with stakeholders to develop, implementing and sustaining effective infection prevention and control strategies through education and quality improvement initiatives.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Implements and monitors Infection Prevention and Control program throughout the medical center.
Evaluates the significance of surveillance and investigation findings to make recommendations for improvement.
Applies fundamental statistics and data tools to detect clusters and outbreaks.
Leads investigations of clusters of nosocomial infections, outbreaks, and exposures using investigative techniques under the direction of Director or Associate Medical Director, Hospital Epidemiology.
Evaluates and validates surveillance systems data to ensure surveillance systems and processes are producing accurate results
Advocates for and serves as a resource to healthcare workers for safe practices and policies consistent with current guidelines and and evidence-based infection control practices.
Creates and provides in-service education programs to support the needs of the medical center.
Serves on hospital/department committees as an infection prevention and control subject matter expert to contribute to, and advocate for, the promotion of infection control practices and patient safety.
Reviews and analyzes research findings and determines improvement needs.
Ensures compliance with laws, regulations, accreditation standards, and best practices related to infection prevention and control.
Leads interdisciplinary quality improvement teams as a subject matter expert in infection prevention and control.
Provides mentorship to Infection Preventionists and serves as a role model.
