The Pima County Health Department is seeking a graduate level epidemiology/biostatistics student to support the Operational Research to Strengthen Evidence, Use and Adoption of the 7-1-7 Target for Performance Improvement grant and other epidemiology activities related to outbreak response. The primary responsibilities include retrospective analysis, adaptation of outbreak response checklist and pilot survey creation. As our intern, you will receive training and information to learn about 7-1-7 tools involving these areas and will have the opportunity to shadow and assist on related epidemiologic investigations.

This position will be in person located at the Abrams Public Health Center located at 3950 S. Country Club Rd, Tucson, AZ.

This classification is in the unclassified service and is exempt from the Pima County Merit System Rules.

This position will be 20 hours per week through 9/30/2025.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must be enrolled in Graduate Public Health, Health Policy, Epidemiology or related level degree program with an institution that has an active affiliation agreement with PCHD. Must have a bachelor’s degree from a four-year institution.

Preferred Qualifications: (Be specific in describing your experience in your application. Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies, specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.):   

  • Minimum one (1) year experience in R and/or Stata statistical software.

  • Minimum one (1) year experience in survey creation and implementation.

  • Current MEZCOPH student in the SAFER program.

Selection Procedure:

Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum/desired qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum/desired qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidates from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.

Supplemental Information:

Licenses and Certificates: Valid driver license is required at time of application. Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicant’s suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services’ review and approval of the candidate’s driving record. Failure to maintain the required licensure shall be grounds for termination.
