Description:  

The Ottawa County Youth Assessment Survey (YAS) Committee is seeking a motivated graduate student to analyze and interpret the 2025 YAS. This survey, conducted biennially since 2005, provides critical insights into youth risk and protective behaviors across the county. Role Overview

This internship offers hands-on experience in data analysis, trend interpretation, and report development, contributing directly to teen health initiatives in Ottawa County. The role involves close collaboration with public and community health practitioners and participation in YAS Committee meetings, with the opportunity to present findings to schools and the broader community.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Management & Analysis
    1. Clean, weight, and analyze categorical data using SAS programming.
    2. Apply regression models to identify behavioral trends.
    3. Update and implement analysis plans for the 2025 YAS.
  • Report Development
    1. Create county-level longitudinal reports and individual school district summaries.
    2. Develop one-page thematic reports on specific topics.
    3. Prepare written and oral presentations for diverse audiences.
  • Collaboration & Improvement
    1. Work with the YAS Committee to interpret key findings.
    2. Propose and document enhancements to survey methods and analysis.
    3. (Optional) Conduct stakeholder interviews or surveys to assess community usage of YAS data.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a graduate degree in Biostatistics, Public Health, Epidemiology, Applied Statistics, or Data Science.
  • Strong background in statistics and proficiency in SAS programming.
  • Expertise using Excel to manage and display data. 
  • Commitment to fostering an equitable, inclusive, and diverse work environment.
  • Ability to work in-person in Holland Michigan with potential for some remote work.
